“Hindu terror is a myth”
The Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh has been waging a battle against the Union Home Ministry since a statement suggesting that the RSS run training camps were promoting Hindu terrorism hit the headlines. The statement was recently made by Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde and this for obvious reasons did not go down too well with the RSS and the BJP.
Ram Madhav, member of the national executive and also the spokesperson of the RSS says that it has upset them, but are capable of tackling it. In this interview with rediff.com, Ram Madhav discusses the comments by the Home Minister, the controversial Owaisi speech and also the next Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP.
Shinde’s remark:
I feel it is all part of the political game that the Congress party is up to now. We have seen a pattern in these statements. Basically what Shinde is speaking about is a myth and the statements that he made was to appeal to certain sections of the country. He thought that they would have a political benefit and also gain some votes through this statement.
If you recollect, former Home Minister, P Chidambaram was the first one to say something to this effect. He raised the bogey of saffron terror. However he took his statements back and later said that it was said in the context of some information. This was then carried forward by Digvijay Singh and today the Home Minister has raked up the issue. If you listen to the speech made by Shinde, it was very clear that he was trying to please his political bosses and he believed that it would appeal to his leaders.
Shinde made a statement for his political gains. But then what was the necessity for the Home Secretary to come and back that statement. When a political statement is made then there is no obligation for the Home Secretary to come and issue another statement backing it. Doesn’t this mean he is trying to influence the investigation?
The RSS will tackle the issue. We are used to such statements and we can handle it. However what I must add is that when a Home Minister makes such a statement it carries a lot of weight. It is a myth that he is speaking about and in the bargain we have destroyed our capability of fighting terror. This statement has done a huge amount of damage to our capabilities of fighting terrorism.
What about those arrested?
One must remember that when an investigation is still on responsible persons like the Home Minister and the Home Secretary must not talk about it publicly. In all those cases in which Hindus have been implicated there is no clear cut case that has been made out against them. In all these cases initially a set of boys from the minority community were arrested. They have confessions of those boys and you can check the records of the various investigating agencies that have probed these cases. Suddenly today there are a different set of youth who have been implicated in these cases. Our point is if the first investigation was wrong then why cannot the second one also be wrong. One has to wait until the allegations are proved. Since the past four years the National Investigation Agency has not been able to prove anything and have not even progressed in these cases. Every second day they have a new theory.
Here I would like to draw your attention on the Samjautha blasts case. Rehman Malik the Pakistan minister had himself said it was the Lashkar-e-Tayiba which had carried out that blast. A resolution by the United Nations too had said that the Lashkar was responsible. Now the stand has been changed. This is nothing but a conspiracy to implicate the Hindu youth.
On Owaisi’s speech
It is a very serious question for the Muslims in the country too. The Owaisi brothers are trying to occupy the leadership vaccum in the Muslim Commnity today. The larger question that I would like to ask is if the Muslims want leaders like this. Do they want to look up to an Owaisi who is anti majority of anti India? However we are happy that the government took strong action on this and today the Owaisis stand isolated.
Modi for Prime Minister:
This is a decision that the party (BJP) and its leaders will have to take. Firstly the people will have to vote for the party. Whoever the party decides to make the Prime Minister, the RSS will be fine with it. The RSS does not have any special opposition to anyone. However the prime focus should first be to get the required number of seats in Parliament.

Thanks Vicky for bringing Ram Madhav to us, but I expected a much longer and deep thoughts emanating from the Sangha on diversified issues which would be more relevant to the current times.
Welcome sir will do another soon
Good interview, Vicky. Thanks.
Thank you sir
RSS leader’s concluding statements about getting nos sounds like alarm bells and the alarm bells r not heard in the deaf ears of BJP coz they r only thinking of the PMs chair.Irony is that now the RSS seems like thinking like a political party and the BJP like a “cultural” organisation. No Surprises that RSS is rightly calling the shots when Madhav says ” Firstly PEOPLE should elect BJP”
PUNEETH
Are there any surprises with political manipulations? Your pieces are very informative and I’m glad to connect with and understand a little more about a county far away from where I live. Thank you, Vicky.
